“The increase in log volume to be processed at our Colac and Irrewarra Sites will create the opportunity to expand our operational and maintenance teams," Chief Operating Officer Hamish Little saif.
"We have numerous positions that we need to fill with new employees," he said.
"Exceptional people joined our team when we reopened the Irrewarra site late last year."
"We want to use the decision to further increase production as an opportunity to further build on our teams and continue to employ quality people."
The decision made by AKD has been made in response to the continued strong market demand for timber throughout Australia.
The government Home Builder stimulus coupled with low interest rates has encouraged more first home buyers to enter the market and lifted the number of renovations.
“Australia’s New Home Sales during the December 2020 quarter were reported to be almost 50 per cent higher than the September 2020 quarter and almost double that of the same time the previous year," Mr Little said.
New detached housing is the major driver for AKD’s product demand, so our business has been gearing up to meet this demand and retain Australian logs to be processed in Australia,” he said.
