Apollo Bay man Christian Feetham has been granted a Visa to stay in Australia
Apollo Bay man Christian Feetham has been granted a VISA to stay in Australia, after being held in Maribyrnong Detention Centre since April.
His hometown of Apollo Bay have been rallying since he was at risk of deportation, as President of the Apollo Bay Chamber of Commerce John Gorman reveals Christian is now able to reside in Australia.
Mr Gorman said that Christian has been granted the VISA for 5 years, and he gives credit to Member for Corangamite Sarah Henderson for campaigning on behalf of the people of Apollo Bay, who have been fighting to keep Christian in the country since he was placed in the detention centre earlier this year.
Mr Feetham is a fifth-generation 'Australian' on his mother's side, was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia when he was 3 months old, but several convictions formed the basis of the Federal Government's "bad character" decision, which included the cancellation of his permanent residential visa, and the threat of deportation to New Zealand.
