Council approves development
The Colac Otway Shire has approved a development to allow Bulla Dairy Foods to expand their Forrest Street yogurt manufacturing plant in Colac.
Bulla needed planning permission to extend an industrial building, build a new building to accommodate plant and equipment and extend an acoustic fence.
The proposed buildings and works will be located on the western side of the existing manufacturing building.
It's believed an increase in demand for pot set yogurt is behind the expansion.
Colac Otway Shire Mayor Chris Potter says they're putting in some additional plant equipment.
"We fully support that, an iconic Colac company doing great things and council is certainly behind them."
Councillor Potter says the extension will provide a chiller room and an addtional storage area.
"What they were doing triggered a procedure where councillors had to have a look at the proposal and approve or disapprove.
"Naturally we approved it, it doesn't impact the surrounds, and it was a unanimous in favour of Bulla's expansion."
