A dear friend
Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson says she is not ready to say more about the death of a close gay friend until she has spoken to his family.
During debate in Federal Parliament on same-sex legislation she became emotional as she told the House how her dear friend John Parker wanted to see the bill pass.
"In one of the last conversations I had with him he just said to me, Hendo, just bloody well get on with it OK? And I say to JP my dear beloved friend who I miss so dearly, JP, that's what we are doing.
She told Parliament, his death was horrific.
"I'm sorry I'm crying, but his loss has been terrible. He was a dear friend. From the age of 12, one of my closest friends.
Ms Henderson announced her support for same-sex marriage two years ago.
