Colac's Creative Community Rejoice With Official Opening Of The Maker's Space

After many years of campaigning from the local creative community, Colac's Makers Space was officially launched yesterday by Councillor Joe McCracken.

Councillor McCracken said the space would bring people together from all walks of life, but with a shared interest in creating forms of art.

"It was a great pleasure to launch the Colac Maker's Space, which is now open. This is a project that's been underway for, I dare say, almost 20 years or so. One of the organisers, Irene, said at the launch 'It's taken 20 years for the Makers Space to be an overnight sensation' and that couldn't be a truer word I think.

"This is a great hub for all artists and creative people in our community to gather and make creative items, not only painting, but sculpture and many, many other creative pursuits. It's an absolute credit to the organisers and the committee of the Makers Space that put forward their ideas and continued to advocate for the project that's finally come to fruition.

"We're going to have a lot of different artistic events in there, and the 'Maker's' are very good at putting on artistic shows. I mean, at the launch, I ran through a footy banner they'd made! I could not think of a more appropriate Colac way of opening the Makers Space. It was very, very creative and something I was not expecting! But you know what, it says so much of the connection between our arts community to the rest of the Colac community.

"I hope that the community will get behind it and support it so it lasts for a long, long time."
