More than 300 activities will be on offer along Victoria’s coastline during the program which encourages people of all ages to explore our coastal and marine environments.

New activities for Geelong, the Bellarine and Surf Coast in 2020 include:

· Shark Detectives – educational sessions at the Queenscliff Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre

· Split Point Lighthouse tours – covering maritime history and lighthouse operation

· Birdwatching at Limeburners Bay – learn about the unique birdlife at a local wetland

Local activities returning to the program include fossil safaris at Point Addis and Aireys Inlet, surfing lessons at Anglesea, and rockpool rambles along Surf Coast and Bellarine beaches.

The program combines fun and education through a wide range of activities where participants learn about protecting coastal and marine environments for future generations.

Following Summer by the Sea 2019, many participants said they were highly likely to take action to improve coastal and marine environments as a result of what they had learnt.

23% expected to change their rubbish-disposal habits, 24% planned to undertake direct action such as volunteer work, and 55% were motivated to share what they had learnt with others.

Bookings for activities can be made at summerbythesea.vic.gov.au from December 16.

Anyone who has a special need and would require assistance to take part in Summer by the Sea 2020, can contact Coastcare Victoria to discuss how staff can help them participate.
