Horrible 24 Hours On Our Southwest Roads With Multiple Crashes

A number of collisions occurred throughout the southwest yesterday recorded in Lorne, Mount Moriac and Winchelsea.

At around 10am yesterday, emergency services were called to the Deans Marsh - Lorne Road near Lorne.

A man in his 40s was entrapped in his vehicle which had fallen down an embankment and had become wedged. SES worked for 2 hours to free the man from the vehicle.

He was then flown to the Lorne hospital with back and spinal injuries before being transferred to the Royal Melbourne by air ambulance.

A woman in her 30s was also treated by paramedics. They are both believed to be in stable conditions.

At 1.30pm, two vehicles were involved in a collision at Mount Moriac.

A Honda wagon traveling straight across the Princes Freeway from Cape Otway Road onto Devon Road failed to give way to a Holden Captiva travelling easterly along the freeway.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, but no injuries to any persons were recorded.

Highway Patrol were then called to Atkins Road in Winchelsea at 3.20pm, after a vehicle was found trapped down off the side of the road. 5 people were transferred to hospital, their injuries and conditions are currently unknown.

The circumstances behind the crash is being investigated.
