V/Line has been slammed for failing to meet targets
Cancellations, delays and overcrowding have plagued the V/Line network according to a report by the State Auditor General.
The troubled regional rail service also has a mammoth $534 million maintenance backlog.
The report says years of inadequate maintenance funding and a lack of attention to customer needs led to the failings over the last decade.
V/Line CEO James Pinder has accepted the recommendations made in the report.
He says their focus now is to deal with increased patronage growth across the network and improve their performance.
A $114 million funding package for Warrnambool Line was announced earlier this year to upgrade track and signalling to enable more services.
