The Barwon South West’s COVID-19 vaccination program commenced on February 22 with frontline workers in Geelong receiving the Pfizer vaccine.

A vaccination outreach team are in Colac today, in partnership with Colac Area Health, vaccinating healthcare workers, public sector aged care residents and staff, in line with the
phase 1a priority rollout.

Colac Area Health CEO Fiona Brew said the organisation had worked closely with the Barwon South West Public Health Unit to plan logistics for the vaccine’s local rollout.

“As more Pfizer stock is made available, the Barwon South West Public Health Unit will work with us to expand the vaccination program to our district,” she said.

“Our frontline staff and aged care residents are eager to receive the vaccine and we are pleased this process can begin this week.

“We look forward to working closely with Barwon Health’s vaccination outreach team, as well as local pharmacies, GPs, and other agencies to ensure all eligible people can access this safe and effective vaccine through each phase of the rollout.”

About 2000 people in the Barwon South West region will be vaccinated as part of the immunisation program’s first phase.
